The John McDermott Library and Learning Resources Centre

The College’s spacious, well-equipped Learning Resources Centre provides a wide range of up-to-date facilities. As well as the traditional books, magazines, newspapers, journals etc, users have access to videos, audio-cassettes, photocopying, and colour printing facilities. The Learning Resources Centre contains multimedia computers offering a wide variety of applications as well as Internet access. The Learning Resources Centre also houses the College's Learndirect Centre, the European Computer Driving Licence Centre and the Study Support Centre. The library can be found on the top floor of the Jubilee building.

Lichfield Campus Library facilities

Staffordshire University and Tamworth and Lichfield College have entered into a unique partnership with Staffordshire Libraries and Information Services to provide access to students for paper based and other materials in support of a variety of courses delivered on the Lichfield Campus.

This service is provided during library opening hours through Lichfield Public Library, which is conveniently situated in close proximity to the University Centre.

How do I join?

You need to obtain a library card from the Enquiry desk within the Library. To do this, take your student ID card, and you will receive a library card. If you are already a member of the County Library, take your existing card to the desk with your student ID card and it will be marked accordingly.

What can I borrow?

You can borrow an unlimited amount of books on your card. Books bought by the University and College are marked with the appropriate University or College logo on the spine, and with a special date label inside. These can be borrowed for up to two weeks. All other books are loaned for three weeks. Many of the text books are prescribed reading for courses - from Travel & Tourism, to Business and Management, Health & Social Care to Art & Design.

Videos, DVDs and CDs are available for short loan. They include a general collection of fiction and non-fiction materials and hire of talking books. Journals are also available for reference and for loan. The Library also holds a collection of quality newspapers and has access to a searchable database of back copies.

You can also get access to TALIS: Staffordshire Libraries' County catalogue. This includes a searchable database of holdings in the main campus libraries across Staffordshire including: Thomson at Stoke and Nelson at Stafford. Both the databases have the facility for the online request and renewal of items. There is also a special delivery arrangement whereby books ordered online from other Staffordshire University libraries can be collected directly from Lichfield Public Library.

You may renew books by telephone (0845 3300740) by letter, email or by Talisweb (via www.staffordshire.gov.uk).

Fines are charged at 10p per working business day.

Electronic resources

Lichfield Public Library offers free use of the internet, Microsoft Works software and e-mail facilities during library opening times. (Printing and floppy disks are available for a small charge).

The College subscribes to a variety of electronic resources. To access these, log on to a computer, either in the SULC building or from the computers in the library. Go to the College's intranet (www.tlcintra.net) then follow the link to resources. Click on "Learning Resources Centre" and then "Electronic Resources". Some resources ask for an ATHENS username and password. You will need to apply via the Learning Resources Centre at Tamworth or from the SULC IT help-desk for a registration form.

Other services available

The Library has provision of a quiet study space just a short walk away from the hustle and bustle of the University centre.

There is also an art gallery for all to view free of charge.

Photocopying

Mono and colour photocopying facilities are available for student use.

To use the mono copier, located in block A, students must first purchase a copying card from the Computer Helpdesk. These are available with either £1 credit or £5 credit. A £1 deposit is required for the card.

Colour copying is available in the computer area. The Helpdesk staff will copy for you. There is a charge for each copy produced. The current rates are 50p for A4 size and £1 for A3 size.

The use of media other than paper loaded into the copiers is not allowed. Questions concerning this should be referred initially to your tutor.

Enrolment 2008

Enrolment begins on Monday the 4th August 2008.
Tamworth Campus enrolment is from 10am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday (Tuesday 10am-6:30pm).
Lichfield Campus enrolment is from 12pm-5:30pm, Monday to Friday.
