Tamworth & Lichfield College

School Leavers

What's Next After School?

You may be close to leaving school or even a few years off, either way you will be very surprised at how quickly the time will pass before you find yourself entering a whole new world of exciting opportunities.

You may be thinking of staying on into the sixth form, which is the right route for some students, or you may be wondering what other alternatives there are, such as coming to college.

Look through this section aimed at school leavers and see what Tamworth and Lichfield College can do for you.

What's on Offer?

AS-level and A-level Qualifications
Academic style qualifications – we offer these in conjunction with local schools, or as an add-on to vocational qualifications
Apprenticeships
Work Based training

NVQs
Job related and Work Based training programmes

What GCSEs do I need?

Most of our courses operate at different levels; you can join according to the results you leave school with. For instance you can join an Entry level or Foundation course with no qualifications. BTEC First or GNVQ Intermediate courses need 2 GCSEs at grades A-C, and BTEC National courses require 4 GCSEs at A-C.

But don't worry, we know that you won't get your results until August. You can apply for a course without knowing what results you will get. If we need to we will change the level of course you are on in September.

Whatever your results, we are sure that we can find the right subject at the right level for you.

Look through the course finder, or contact us for more help in finding the best course for you.

Earn and Learn

Getting paid while you learn might sound too good to be true - but as an Apprentice that's exactly what you'll do. Combine the hands-on experience of working with the qualifications you'll gain by studying for the best of both worlds.

Apprentices learn on the job, building up knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all at the same time. They lead to National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), key skills qualifications and Technical Certificates. Look at the Apprenticeships site for more information.

How to apply

Fill in and send back the application form. Don't worry if you are not sure which course or level would be best for you. We will invite you (and your parents if you wish) for a general guidance discussion first if necessary. If you do know which course you want, we will invite you for an informal interview with a specialist tutor from that area.

We will keep in touch with you about when to start, transport or finance help etc.
