New Foundation Degree - It's A Real Beauty!

The enormous popularity of an ever-growing range of hair and beauty therapies has led to the introduction of a brand new Foundation Degree at Tamworth & Lichfield College.
Starting in September, the new course is aimed at students who want to gain a higher level professional qualification, offering an opportunity to progress from the Foundation Degree to a BSc Honours Degree at Staffordshire University.
The course provides a thorough knowledge of modern complementary therapies taught both in the workplace and in college. And in a move towards tying in complementary therapies with the work of the medical professions, there is a clear focus on the application of aromatherapy and reflexology within a healthcare environment. To support this, the course also covers anatomy, physiology, pathology and biochemistry.
Programme Manager for the college’s Hair and Beauty Department Sharon Bedlow said the overall aim was to equip students with a high level of knowledge and understanding of the professional requirements of modern-day therapy environments. “We want to ensure that all our students get the very best training by presenting a high quality qualification underpinned by work-based learning,” she said.
“The new Foundation Degree is an excellent qualification route for people who want to work in this increasingly popular area, not only providing them with industry skills and knowledge, but also helping them to understand what business and people skills are required to work successfully in small or large commercial environments.
“The new emphasis on working with healthcare professionals is a welcome and worthwhile element of the qualification, and it will certainly help people to enhance their career prospects – particularly as there is currently a drive towards introducing licences for certain types of holistic practice in the future.”
Entry requirements for the two year course held at the college’s Tamworth Campus are a Level 3 Diploma qualification, other degree qualifications or relevant A Levels. Anyone interested is invited to contact the college on 01827 310202.
