Students help college to go green

Students from Tamworth & Lichfield College have been busy promoting the benefits of recycling to help cut waste and its effects on the environment

As part of the Colleges overall aim to be greener and to lower its Carbon Footprint, new recycling procedures have been put into place to ensure that as much as possible can be recycled. With the help of Tamworth Borough Council, new bins have been provided specifically for plastic, metal cans and paper/card to help sort and separate recyclables at no extra cost.

To coincide with the College’s focus on recycling a competition was held for students to design a poster. Posters had to encourage the correct recycling of plastic bottles and cups, metal cans and paper into the new recycling bins. Posters could also comment on the benefits to the environment of recycling.

Over 40 poster designs were entered in the competition and they were all put on display for students and staff to vote for their three favourite entries. The votes were counted in and awards were given to three designs with the highest number of votes.

Barbara Hayward, Environmental Manager, Tamworth & Lichfield College, said:
“Tamworth & Lichfield College take their responsibilities to the environment very seriously. We are constantly looking to lower our Carbon Footprint with energy saving measures and we want to reduce our impact on nature by ensuring that we recycle as much waste as possible. With this competition we wanted to engage the students in understanding how easy it is to recycle and make a difference to the environment”

Competition Winners

1st Prize Xavier Krasnickl
2nd Prize Jason Hayes
3rd Prize Dael Blencoe
