College Student Boxes For England In France

Seventeen years old Tamworth Boxing Academy student Charlie Delve has been chosen to represent England in a tournament against France.
Selected for his growing potential to scale the heights of the boxing world, Charlie is one of an increasing number of success stories produced by the academy which was set up in collaboration with Tamworth & Lichfield College two years ago to help produce international class amateur boxers.
Head Coach at the Amington-based academy Alan Keast said, “Everyone is impressed by Charlie’s development. When he joined the academy last year, he was a raw beginner in boxing terms, but he has a very determined attitude, he trains hard and he is now recognised as one of the top young boxers in the country. It really is a fantastic achievement in such a short time.”
Charlie added, “I was really shocked when the England coach said they were impressed with me and I’m delighted to be going to France. My next goal is to win a national title.”
As part of his involvement in the academy, Charlie is also studying to achieve a BTEC National in Sport at Tamworth & Lichfield College. Assistant Principal John Fontaine said, “We are delighted that Charlie is doing so well and welcome his achievement as a demonstration of what can be achieved when students combine sporting and educational excellence in a very positive way.”
Charlie, who hails from Bromsgrove, will box on January 18th and 19th in France, taking on representatives of two French boxing teams in an annual Dual Nation Championship for young boxers. Alan Keast added, “Several other members of the boxing academy were also commended by selectors looking for new talent in the region and we will all be cheering Charlie on when he steps into the ring.”
Update
At the Dual Nation Championship, Charlie had two bouts against French boxers. Charlie performed well in both matches, impressing with his commitment and technique, but unfortunately both matches went to the combatants from France.
