Tamworth and Lichfield College involved in the Green Colleges Launch Event

Tamworth and Lichfield College’s work on sustainability with other Staffordshire Colleges was in the spotlight at the Association of Colleges (AoC) launch event for the Green Colleges brochure.

The brochure is a showcase of how AoC member colleges (which includes Tamworth & Lichfield) are implementing the green agenda. Copies are available online at: www.aoc.co.uk/aoc/media/campaigns/greencolleges.pdf

The launch event took place Westminster, London on the 16th October. Speakers and guests at the event include education minister Bill Rammell, Richard Rugg of the Carbon Trust and MP for Stafford David Kidney. The event was attended by the Principal of the College, Ann Neville and Head of the College’s Environmental Unit, Barbara Haywood.

Bill Rammell MP, Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, said;
“I am delighted that colleges, as demonstrated by this publication, have proved their commitment and ingenuity in establishing sustainable development into their buildings, the curriculum and their work with employers and local communities.”

Ann Neville, Principal of Tamworth and Lichfield College, said;
“At Tamworth and Lichfield College we are taking a head-on approach to environmental sustainability. We have a unique opportunity to showcase and educate best practice to future generations.”

“The College has worked hard and is still working hard on is environmental policies and procedures. We have worked with the local council to help us become greener and we are always striving for improvement to reduce our carbon footprint.”

“It can be simple things such as making sure students recycle drink cans to remembering to switch off lights when they are not going to be used that can make all the difference.”
