College Offers Free Courses
Tamworth & Lichfield College has fought back against government cutbacks and scored a major success by winning a round of specialised funding that will enable it to offer a wide range of free courses and training support to businesses this year.
It has also launched a campaign to help local people improve their skills by offering all full time Level 2 courses free to every adult student who has not yet achieved a Level 2 qualification - the cornerstone of a drive to help build greater economic stability and prosperity for the region.
“Delighted to Offer Free Training”
The new programmes will start immediately and are expected to offset substantially the effect of recent government cutbacks which led to price rises for adult education courses. Principal Ann Neville said, “I am delighted to be able to put forward this free training which has been in the planning for some time, and would encourage local businesses and adults to make the most of the very considerable opportunities that are now on offer.
“It is our central aim to ensure that people and businesses in this region are able to access the best and most useful training to help them achieve their goals, and with this new programme of options, we are confident that people can come into college, build new skills and contribute to a more prosperous economic community as a whole.”
Train to Gain
The new business support funding was won in a collaborative bid with six other Staffordshire colleges to provide courses right across the region under the national ‘Train to Gain’ initiative, which provides cash to run Level 2 courses at no charge to the students and businesses involved, and can help identify other financial support for more specialised training. Courses are in a wide variety of areas including businesses and professional services, engineering, manufacturing, construction, health, social and child care, public services, ICT, leisure and tourism, transport and logistics, hair and beauty and many others.
An even wider range of free Level 2 courses is available directly to adult students who may or may not be in work, either to brush up existing skills or learn new ones. “These courses provide the ideal opportunity to learn something new, or even to undertake a course as a leisure pursuit.
Options are available in areas such as:
- Art
- IT
- Hair and Beauty
- Computing
- Social Care
- And Public Service sectors.
If anyone is interested, all they have to do is contact us here at the college and find out what’s on offer this year,” she said.
“Furthermore, we are also concentrating on the provision of basic skills courses intended to help individuals build up their skills and expertise in order to improve their job prospects.”
