The Dr Johnson Project Exhibition
Tamworth & Lichfield College’s School of Art has hosted an exhibition of work by students.
On display were pieces from Lichfield School of Art, Friary School and the Nuffield Centre.
Tamworth & Lichfield College in association with the Samuel Johnson Project had been showcasing an exhibition of student artwork. The exhibition saw the culmination of the first stage of the Samuel Johnson Tercentenary Sculpture project. This project has been set up to develop designs for thee monumental sculptures for the city to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Lichfield’s most famous son, (Samuel Johnson) in 2009.
Lead sculptor Peter Walker, supported by a range of leading artists has been working with three groups from around the city (Lichfield School of Art, Friary School and the Nuffield Centre). With working closely with these groups and through many workshops, each group has helped to establish the research and design of the three monuments. The sculptures will relate to Samuel Johnson, the city and its culture, and act as a celebration of the creativity that lies there within.
