Tamworth and Lichfield College along with Cannock Chase Technical College College and Rodbaston College have been in discussion to identify the potential benefits of merging into one large college for Southern Staffordshire.

Initial discussions had been extremely positive, and the three colleges share very similar challenges and could collectively become a stronger, more responsive college, well placed to thrive in an increasingly competitive environment, and to provide even better opportunities for staff and students.

Preparatory consultation work has resulted in an Initial Outline Proposal to merge the 3 colleges into one Southern Staffordshire College that will preserve the key values and strengths of our four distinct campuses: Tamworth, Lichfield, Cannock and Rodbaston. The proposal was then submitted to the regional Learning and Skills Council, and has been given approval to proceed to the next stage.

The next stage is to commission consultants to conduct a due diligence scrutiny of each college, and for the LSC to launch a consultation process for all stakeholders. A due diligence process identifies whether such a merger is feasible.
