Tamworth & Lichfield College

Lichfield Campus

Introduction

Lichfield Campus, close to the city centre, is unique in offering further education courses, and also higher education in partnership with Staffordshire University. The college offers some courses which are replicated at both campuses, but specialist provision is provided in the £3 million School of Art, Design and Media, housed in new purpose built accommodation, opened in 2006. The School of Art received the highest possible grade – “outstanding provision” – in the latest OfSTED inspection report. A “Business Village” on the campus comprises serviced units enabling local businesses to operate in a campus setting. All students have access to the Learning Centre, and a recently redesigned café provides hot and cold refreshments to enable students to make the most of this varied learning environment.

Open Access Area (Computer area)

All students are welcome to come and work in the open access area and learning advisors are on hand and happy to help those that require it. No particular subject group occupies the OAA at any one time and helpdesk staff try to ensure that individuals who wish to work quietly outside classes can do so in an environment that is conducive and productive. The area also is a work base to several members of staff. The computer open access area is a place of individual work not a group work area. Noise levels should be kept to a minimum.

For the benefit of all working in the OAA, those who cannot follow the simple rules below will be asked to leave.

  • Students should be mindful of others working, even whilst passing through on your way to class
  • Strictly no eating or drinking in any of the computer areas. Water may be taken from the water dispenser, but must not be taken back to the computer area
  • Mobile phone calls are not allowed; please switch your mobile to silent when entering the computer area
  • All students who use the computer facilities do so on the understanding that they will abide by any directions given them by staff members. Students who cannot follow these simple rules will be asked to leave

On Monday - Friday only students are able to park here. On Saturdays and Sundays the car park is open to the public. There are approximately 50 spaces available. Car park permits will be provided to students who wish to use the car park and these must be displayed at all times between Monday and Friday, in addition to a valid pay and display ticket. The permits should be requested from reception, but do not guarantee a space to park.

Failure to comply with any of these requirements will result in a parking fine administered by Lichfield District Council. Parking spaces are available for disabled users and a ten minute drop-off point is available to those who need to drop off materials relating to their course.

Staffordshire University Lichfield Centre encourages staff and students to be aware of the Green Transport Policy. Our centre has been fitted with showers (including disabled facilities) that can be used by staff and students who choose to walk or cycle into college. These are located in the toilets in block D.
