About Us
Tamworth and Lichfield College is based on two main campuses
one in the historic town of Tamworth, once the capital of the ancient kingdom of Mercia, and the other in the Cathedral City of Lichfield where Staffordshire University Lichfield Centre and The School of Art comprise the College campus. Courses are also provided at specialist I.T. Centres and many community venues, including high schools, primary schools and leisure centres.
Tamworth and Lichfield College has developed extensively to a point where over 15,000 students annually are enrolled at College for high quality education and training. Current initiatives have included the opening in 2003 of a major extension on the Tamworth Campus, housing a new Library and Learning Resource Centre, electronic classrooms, Hairdressing and Beauty Salons, a new Café, fitness studios and Reception. A new Technology Centre for training in the engineering and automotive industries was also created. In 2002 a new building was opened on the Lichfield Campus, housing the School of Art and enhanced facilities for the University Centre. A major extension to the School of Art opened in February 2006.
Our Heritage
Tamworth College opened in 1953 and the developing partnership between Tamworth and Lichfield Colleges led, in April 1996, to their formal incorporation as one organisation. Lichfield College brought to the new corporation a historic centre for part-time education for adult students. It was established as Lichfield School of Art in 1879 and has a long tradition of Art courses and an international reputation for embroidery and lacemaking. May 1998 saw the opening of Staffordshire University Lichfield Centre to enable local provision of higher education courses.
The Principal and Board of Governors are in overall charge of the College, supported by three Assistant Principals and a Principal Director.
Courses are organised in the following schools:
- Business Services
- Care and Education
- Art
- Technology
Apprenticeships
The college also offers Apprenticeships. These are work based learning programmes where students are based with local companies and attend college for one day a week.
In addition, cross-college functions of Marketing, Student Services, Quality, Examinations, Health and Safety, Finance, Premises, Professional Development, Business Liaison, International Projects, Company Training, Admissions and Guidance are managed by designated staff. A chart showing details of the College organisation is available from Reception.
Every full-time student is assigned to a tutor who will assist with academic progress, and who will act as a first point of contact for pastoral care. On both campuses Reception and Information/Student Service Centres provide a focal point for Course Information, Guidance, Personal Counselling, Careers and Higher Education Information as well as enrolments and exam entries.
