Centres of Vocational Excellence
General Background
Centres of Vocational Excellence were initiated to strengthen links with employers, education, business and other providers in order to create specialist areas of vocational excellence. COVES are a means of strengthening the education sector’s response to national, regional and local economic challenges.
There are over 200 fully operational COVES across all sectors, and the development of COVES continue to make a important contribution to raising the profile and status of vocational education and training.
Our specialist COVES CBES - awarded in partnership to Tamworth & Lichfield and Stoke on Trent College means that the Staffordshire region can benefit from this highly prestigious award.
About Us
CBES is the collaborative partnership between Tamworth & Lichfield College and Stoke on Trent College, which seeks to work with employers across the Staffordshire region to successfully address training and development priorities.
Our mission is to:
- To promote learning opportunities of excellent quality
- To develop a highly skilled workforce in the Business & Professional Sector
- To establish & maintain robust employer led courses
And we are delighted at the award of a COVE status to our college which will enable further investment for all business programmes, setting them at the very forefront of regional business training establishments. LSC funding will also go towards the construction of a new building to house extended business and professional services on the Tamworth Campus.
Evidence suggests a strong growth forecast in the Business & Professional Sector, which already experiences difficulties with skills and knowledge. CBES offers employers a very real opportunity to be proactively involved in addressing the skills needs and gaps within the Staffordshire region.
