Tamworth & Lichfield College

Adult Students

Welcome to Adult Learners

All our courses are open to adults. Whether you want to get back to work, change your career or simply learn something new, we will be very happy to give advice and help you plan your future.

Myths about returning to college:

  • College is only for youngsters: No….the average age of a college student is 27. There are adults on many of our full time courses, and many of our part time courses are made up predominantly of adults. You won't stand out!

  • College is only for those with lots of spare time: No…..there are many opportunities for evening classes, part time enrolment, and weekend classes. We run courses in short blocks if you can’t manage a whole academic year, and many courses run at local venues, so travel time is shorter.

  • College is only for extremely intelligent people... No, there are ways back in to college to help you with the change – see the Access course section below, but college students are perfectly normal average people.

  • College costs too much….Probably not….We can advise you on course costs - which may be free, or very little for some people. There is a Learner Support Fund and Adult Learning Grant which you may be eligible for. Our advisers will help.

We value our adult students, and you will find that with your time management skills, and mature approach to life, you will probably be at an advantage over our younger students. Come and see!

Access to Further and Higher Education

If it's been a while since you last studied or left school, you may feel daunted at the prospect of returning to college. However, you can rest assured that, at Tamworth and Lichfield College, an Access course will provide you with the knowledge, confidence and recognized qualifications to take you further. You could try an Access to Further Education course to gently introduce you to life at college.

Higher Education Access courses provide an excellent opportunity to gain the skills, grades and confidence you need to continue in education at university-level.

The qualifications normally required to do a higher education course are AS-/A-levels but this is not always appropriate for mature applicants. Therefore there are many other routes to higher education, one of which is an Access course.

Whether you want to improve your career prospects, refresh your skills, or just try a new direction, Tamworth and Lichfield College has an Access course which will start you on the right path to a successful future in further or higher education.
